Sunny Corner is a small village and former silver-mining field between Bathurst and Lithgow, north of the Great Western Highway. Gold was found near Mitchell’s Creek in 1852 and a silver rush followed in 1884; the village was gazetted in 1885 and the mine, which yielded more than 100 tonnes of silver, ran from 1875 to 1922. The population fell from 626 in 2006 to 92 at the 2016 Census.
The village sits on the Great Dividing Range, about 30 km east of Bathurst by road, in high, forested hill country that gets frost, fog and occasional snow. Mitchells Creek and Kirkconnell Creek rise nearby and feed the Winburndale Rivulet.
Sunny Corner State Forest has walking, mountain-bike and camping areas, and traces of the mining and smelting works can still be found. The mine site remains contaminated, so keep to signed areas.
A taxi over 179 km runs on the meter with no set price, and few will come out to Sunny Corner for a pre-dawn start. Public transport means a coach or drive to the nearest station, a train to Central and a change to the airport line with your luggage — and nothing gets you there for an early flight. Driving yourself means about 2 hr 27 min each way plus airport parking for every day you are away. See the full comparison.
Flying home? We meet you at the rideshare area inside the P7 car park at T1, or the Priority Pick-up area off the P1 walkway at T2 and T3, with free waiting of 60 minutes after an international landing and 40 after a domestic one — step-by-step pickup directions.
Family down the road or a friend on the way — we collect from more than one address on the same run, so everyone travels in one vehicle for one fixed fare. Add the extra stops when you book.
Each has its own page and published fares.
