Hill End is a former gold-mining town in Bathurst Regional Council, now run as the Hill End Historic Site by NPWS. It boomed in the early 1870s, when the Hill End and Tambaroora district held thousands of people, and is now home to only a small community. Its preserved streetscape is a popular heritage destination.
Hill End sits on a ridge in hilly, forested Central Tablelands country about 75 km from Bathurst by road, a little over 50 km north-west of the city as the crow flies. The Turon River runs nearby.
Walk the heritage streetscape, the museum and visitor centre and the old mining relics. Gold panning and fossicking are popular, and the Bridle Track runs back towards Bathurst.
A taxi over 276 km runs on the meter with no set price, and few will come out to Hill End for a pre-dawn start. Public transport means a coach or drive to the nearest station, a train to Central and a change to the airport line with your luggage — and nothing gets you there for an early flight. Driving yourself means about 3 hr 32 min each way plus airport parking for every day you are away. See the full comparison.
Flying home? We meet you at the rideshare area inside the P7 car park at T1, or the Priority Pick-up area off the P1 walkway at T2 and T3, with free waiting of 60 minutes after an international landing and 40 after a domestic one — step-by-step pickup directions.
Family down the road or a friend on the way — we collect from more than one address on the same run, so everyone travels in one vehicle for one fixed fare. Add the extra stops when you book.
Each has its own page and published fares.
