Copperhannia is a sparsely settled locality in the Bathurst Regional Council area, best known for Copperhannia Nature Reserve, a 3,497 ha reserve created in 1972 that protects remnant woodland.
It lies about 60 km south-west of Bathurst, roughly 12 km west-south-west of Trunkey Creek, in rugged country cut by Hell Hole Creek, near the Abercrombie River and in the Wyangala Dam catchment.
Copperhannia Nature Reserve has very steep ridges and woodland, and Trunkey Creek, the nearest village, has the historic gold-rush hotels and courthouse. Contact NPWS Bathurst for current reserve access conditions.
A taxi over 276 km runs on the meter with no set price, and few will come out to Copperhannia for a pre-dawn start. Public transport means a coach or drive to the nearest station, a train to Central and a change to the airport line with your luggage — and nothing gets you there for an early flight. Driving yourself means about 3 hr 53 min each way plus airport parking for every day you are away. See the full comparison.
