Brewongle is a small rural locality 16 km east-south-east of Bathurst, with 124 residents at the 2016 Census. Its railway station opened in 1872 as Macquarie Plains, was renamed Brewongle in 1879 and closed in 1975. The name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘camping place’.
