Mount Panorama (Wahluu in Wiradjuri) is a hill and suburb just south-west of central Bathurst with about 100 residents. The Mount Panorama Circuit was built from 1936, opened in March 1938 and now hosts the Bathurst 1000 in October and the Bathurst 12 Hour in February.
Mount Panorama rises about 3 km south-west of the city centre. The 6.2 km circuit climbs and falls by around 174 m between its highest and lowest points.
Drive the circuit when it is open as a public road with a 60 km/h limit, and visit the National Motor Racing Museum beside it. McPhillamy Park and Sulman Park near the top offer views over Bathurst.
A taxi over 210 km runs on the meter with no set price, and few will come out to Mount Panorama for a pre-dawn start. Public transport means a coach or drive to the nearest station, a train to Central and a change to the airport line with your luggage — and nothing gets you there for an early flight.
